About the Role

As the Community Mobilization Coordinator, you'll be at the forefront of designing and implementing strategies for social and behavior change (SBC), advocacy, and community mobilization within the PLANE project. Your work will focus on shifting harmful social norms, promoting positive behaviors around education, and ensuring that every child—especially girls and those from vulnerable groups—has access to quality learning opportunities.

This position is based in Kano, Nigeria, and offers a one-year contract with the potential for extension. It's a full-time role graded at level 3, where you'll collaborate closely with government stakeholders, civil society organizations (CSOs), and local communities to foster lasting change.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategy Development and Implementation: Lead the creation and execution of advocacy, SBC, and community engagement plans to influence policies at state and local levels. Develop targeted messaging and materials like posters, radio scripts, and community dialogue guides to address barriers to education.
• Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Mobilize communities, build capacities of field officers, and partner with traditional leaders, school authorities, and parents' associations to promote sustainable behavior changes and reduce out-of-school children numbers.
• Advocacy and Networking: Represent Save the Children in state-level forums, advocate for integrating behavior change into government strategies, and organize events such as seminars and conferences to amplify education issues.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Track the effectiveness of initiatives, contribute to work plans and budgets, document success stories, and ensure high visibility of our efforts while adhering to child safeguarding and branding guidelines.
• Capacity Building: Train and support community mobilization teams, CSOs, and partners to strengthen civil society engagement and community ownership in education programs.
• Innovation and Communication: Identify champions and influencers within communities, produce reports and presentations, and explore creative ways to share project impacts with internal and external audiences.

You'll also ensure all activities align with safe programming practices, minimizing risks and upholding integrity in every aspect of your work.

What We're Looking For

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

• A degree in social sciences, communication, development studies, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in advocacy, social behavior change, or community mobilization, ideally in education or child rights.
• Proven track record in designing and rolling out SBC strategies, with a deep understanding of social norms and community engagement methods.
• Experience collaborating with governments, CSOs, and communities in Nigeria (northern regions preferred).
• Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluency in English and Hausa.
• Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and travel frequently within the state.

Desirable:

• A master's degree in a relevant area.
• Background in the education sector, particularly focused on girls' education.
• Knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEAL) processes.
• Experience in media, communications, or storytelling.
