The Developing Engineering Leaders Through Her (DELT-Her) initiative is a transformative program in Nigeria aimed at empowering women in engineering and fostering innovation.

DELT-Her seeks to create opportunities for Nigerian women in engineering by supporting innovative, startup-worthy ideas and mentoring participants to develop them into viable businesses. 

The program also aims to inspire school-age girls to pursue engineering careers by showcasing female engineering success stories and increasing visibility. 

It is a collaborative effort involving the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer (PICTT), and the Czech Republic’s TA CR.

Empower Women in Engineering: Provide funding, mentorship, and resources to Nigerian women aged 23–45 with innovative engineering ideas.

Close the Gender Gap: Double the number of female engineers in Nigeria within five years by advancing gender balance in the sector.

Inspire Future Generations: Encourage young girls to pursue engineering through visible success stories and role models.

Contribute to National Development: Support commercially viable engineering projects that drive innovation and economic growth.

Eligibility Criteria:

Target Group: Nigerian women aged 23–45.

Educational Requirement: Applicants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in an engineering-related field.

Project Focus: Proposals must present innovative, commercially viable engineering ideas.

Team Requirement: Applicants need to apply as part of a team to ensure collaborative development.

Funding and Support: Successful applicants receive funding to develop their ideas into startups, along with mentorship to refine their projects.

DELT-Her 2.0: The second phase of the program, launched on May 19, 2025, at NASENI Headquarters in Abuja, opened its proposal portal for submissions from May 20 to July 31, 2025.

Inspiration: The initiative draws inspiration from global programs like the Anita Borg Institute and Girl Up!, which promote women in STEM.
