The Renewable Thermal Lab at the University of Alberta, Canada, is excited to announce a Fully Funded MSc Position in the research area of Small Modular Reactors – Thermal Hydraulics.

Research Description

Our research group focuses on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and their thermal-hydraulics of molten salt systems for clean and carbon energy applications. SMRs offer a reliable, low-carbon energy source, but ensuring their safe and efficient operation requires advanced thermal management. We study how to make SMRs inherently reliable and safe by leveraging high-temperature molten salts and developing passive safety mechanisms. Through fundamental heat transfer analysis, we aim to produce design and safety guidelines for the next-generation commercial-scale deployment of these systems.
