About the MMF:
Supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the Nigeria Malaria Modelling Fellowship (MMF) is a partnership between Corona Management Systems (CMS), the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO). The fellowship aims to:
Increase the number of doctoral and post-doctoral-level mathematical modelers with malaria expertise based at Nigerian institutions by August 2025.
Enhance the capacity of the NMEP to use modeling as a tool for strategic planning and evaluation.
Strengthen the Nigeria Field Epidemiology Training Programme (NFETP) to provide modeling fellowships.
The comprehensive curriculum covers:
Core Modeling Content: Learn to formulate mathematical equations to analyze disease transmission dynamics.
Malaria Epidemiology: Gain in-depth knowledge of malaria, including its spread and control strategies.
Supplementary Modules: Enhance your career with training in project management, evidence synthesis, and scientific writing.
The program offers three competency levels—beginner (310 hours), intermediate (180 hours), and advanced (135 hours)—totaling 625 notional hours. It combines in-person training in Abuja, FCT, with online sessions, ensuring flexibility and accessibility.
Who Can Apply?
The MMF welcomes applications from Nigerian public health professionals living in Nigeria who hold:
A Master’s degree or higher in public health, epidemiology (including environmental, parasite, or veterinary epidemiology), biostatistics, bioinformatics, or applied mathematics.
Specialized training in malaria or other infectious disease control programs (e.g., residents or graduates of accredited Field Epidemiology Training Programs).
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience and current employment with a Nigerian public institution engaged in the One Health framework (human, animal, or environmental health).
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, effective communication skills in English, and demonstrable problem-solving abilities with minimal supervision.
Specialized training in quantitative data analysis (desirable).
Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply, with additional logistical support provided for women with children under 18 months, including transportation and accommodation for in-person training.
