NPC Recruitment 2023 Update: Over N400 billion has been earmarked to be expended on the 2023 census.

According to the National Population Commission (NPC), more than N400 billion has been allocated for the Census in 2023.

This was stated by Jick Lawrence, Head of the NPC Public Affairs Department in Plateau, while he was delivering a presentation on Monday at a one-day capacity-building workshop for journalists on effective census reporting in Jos.

According to Lawrence, approximately N100 billion had been spent thus far on preparations for the April exercise.

The 2023 census is expected to cost more than N400 billion.

He stated, "About N100 billion has been spent on preparations prior to the exercise, as a census is a very large and capital-intensive exercise."

Lawrence explained that some of the funds would be used to empower approximately 1.5 million Nigerians and emphasized that the census had far-reaching socioeconomic benefits.

He stated that individuals with authority would receive sums ranging from N100,000 to N150,000 per person.

He added that approximately 800,000 Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) would be purchased and that 56,000 vehicles would be hired to improve personnel and material movement.

According to Lawrence, the reflation of the economy would increase the economy's value by transferring cash into the hands of clients and functionaries who provide infrastructure and services.

He added that the census was essential to growth and deserved special attention.

Lawrence stated that the questionnaires distributed to households would include additional questions regarding ICT literacy, fertility, child survival, and household deaths in the previous year.

He also mentioned issues with activities, sanitation, and climate change, among other things.
