Lionel Messi: Argentine star threatens to quit Barcelona if there isn’t total restructure

Lionel Messi failed to inspire Barcelona on a night the Catalan giants were dealt a heavy blow

Messi has reportedly threatened to quit the club next year if the club is not restructured 

Lionel Messi is visibly furious with the Barcelona management and latest reports have it that the Argentine has threatened to quit the Catalan club in 2021. The Sun are reporting that Messi, whose contract lapses in the summer of 2021, has told the club board to restructure the squad totally otherwise he would leave. 

The Spanish giants were humiliated in the Champions League quarter-final after German champions Bayern Munich hit them 8-2.

It was the darkest night in the history of the club and Messi could barely comprehend how they were outclassed in such a manner. 

A photo of ‘broken’ Messi emerged showing the 33-year-old rooted to the dressing room seat with goalkeeper Ter Stegen also lost in thoughts as to what had just happened. Bayern were ruthless for the entire 90 minutes scoring four times in either half as Messi and co looked with so much confusion as they crashed out of the tournament. 

A brace each by Philippe Coutinho and Thomas Mueller with Serge Gnabry, Ivan Perisic, Joshua Kimmich, Robert Lewandowski also finding the back of the net for the Bavarians. Luis Suarez scored Barcelona’s goal with the Catalan giants earlier having a goal courtesy a David Alaba own goal. 

A picture showing Messi sitting alone at half-time has surfaced, while the goalkeeper Ter Stegen stood in the doorway. The Sun citing Spanish radio channel El Partidazo de Cope claim Messi has told the club he will leave when his contract expires next summer if there isn't a major restructuring behind the scenes. 

With the Argentine legend not getting any younger, the 33-year-old is not prepared to spend the twilight of his career at a club going backwards. Legit.ng earlier reported that it will be the first time since the 2005 that both Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature in the semifinal of the prestigious competition. 

Ronaldo’s Juventus crashed out of this season’s tournament in the round of 16 following their loss to French side Lyon. Messi and Ronaldo have made their mark in the history of the competition with the Argentine winning it four times with Barcelona.
