The governor of Borno state, Prof. Babagana Zulum, has claimed that there are saboteurs working against the efforts at ending the war against Boko Haram in Nigeria.

Channels TV reports that Zulum made the allegation in Borno on Sunday, August 2 when he met colleagues Atiku Bagudu and Badaru Abubakar, the governors of Kebbi and Jigawa states. Zulum said he believes there are forces working to prevent the government from ending insurgency in the northeast.

The two northern governors paid him a visit following the recent attack on his convoy by insurgents.

The meeting was also attended by Zulum's predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, Senator Ali Ndume and members of the State Executive Council. Governor Zulum said it has become necessary for President Muhammadu Buhari to take a deeper look at the security system to ensure that his efforts are not in vain. Zulum's words came just days after

Legit.ng reported that gunmen attacked his convoy at Baga, a town in the northern state, on Wednesday, July 29. The Borno governor was on his way to some internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the northern part of the state when the incident happened.

He was said to have gone Kukawa and was on his way to Baga when his convoy was attacked. Nobody was injured in the incident but that has not stopped the reactions that have trailed the occurrence.

In one reaction, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Elkanemi, raised the alarm over the rising attacks by insurgents on the northeastern state. The royal father lamented that Borno was no longer safe because the security situation was getting worse. He made his position known on Friday, July 31 when he paid a visit to the governor at the Government House in the state capital Maiduguri on the occasion of the Sallah celebrations.
