Engr Abdullahi Garba Ramat Appointed NERC Chairman: A New Era for Nigeria’s Power Sector -  Read His Strong statement to All Nigerian's

Alhamdulillah. I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence reposed in me by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in approving my appointment as Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and directing me to serve in an acting capacity pending my confirmation by the 10th Senate.

I remain committed to leading NERC with integrity, diligence, and a focus on excellence. I will dedicate myself to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Commission, ensuring that the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) meets the needs of Nigerians in line with Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

As the apex regulatory body in the power sector, I will ensure that industry standards are not only complied with by all actors within the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI) —including GenCos, TCN (now TSP and NISO), NBET, REA, and DisCos. but are also upheld to foster an investor-friendly ecosystem and an efficient market structure that meets the need for safe, adequate, reliable, and affordable electricity in Nigeria.

In consonance and full alignment with the Electricity Act 2023, my commissioners and I will develop and review transparent electricity Tariffs and environmentally sustainable Subsidy mechanisms to safeguard consumer rights and interests while ensuring a consumer-friendly electricity market.

The Electricity Act 2023 (as amended) outlines a clear roadmap for a modern and technologically advanced NESI. My vision is to transform the industry, propel it to the forefront of technological innovation and stimulate investments across the entire value chain, from generation to distribution.

We will prioritize smart grid technologies, advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), and grid modernization initiatives to enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

Moreover, we will foster a regulatory environment that encourages cutting-edge research and development in renewable energy technologies, energy storage solutions, and digitalization by integrating emerging technologies such Blockchain, artificial Intelligence and cloud computing to optimize NESI’s performance. I believe that by embracing a technology-driven approach, we will unlock the vast potential of NESI, attract significant investments, create jobs, and usher in an era of sustainable and reliable electricity for all Nigerians.

Together, we will build a power sector that works –not just for today, but for future generations. This is a journey we must all travel together.
