The cross-dresser was sentenced to jail for the following reasons:His charges:Bobrisky faced repercussions following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on six charges.
The court's verdict revealed that Bobrisky unlawfully tampered with Naira currency issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Notably, he was accused of lavishly spraying a total of N400,000 at imax Circle Mall, Jakande, Lekki, on March 24, 2024.Furthermore, the court found him guilty of similar offenses committed between July and August 2023, where he tampered with N50,000 while dancing at a social gathering at Aja Junction, Korodu.
Additionally, in December 2023, Bobrisky was found to have tampered with N20,000 by showering Naira notes at White Steve Event Hall in Ikeja during another social event.
The verdict also highlighted Bobrisky's interference with N20,000 while dancing at a social event, possibly in 2022 at Event Hall, Oniru, Victoria Island.
However, two of the allegations were ultimately withdrawn, and he pled guilty to naira abuse but asked for compassion as a first-time offender.
Bobrisky’s sentenceJustice Abimbola Awogboro sentenced Okuneye, who has been detained since his arrest last week, to six months in prison.
Background.On April 5, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to four charges of Naira abuse and was subsequently convicted.
The judge postponed sentencing until last Thursday. However, the Federal government declared the day a national holiday in honor of Eid al-Fitr, leading to a delay in the case proceedings.
Deterrent for other Naira abusers.Justice Awogboro stated the punishment will serve as a warning to those who abuse and mutilate Nigerian cash.
The judge determined that the jail term will begin on March 24, 2024, the day of his arrest.
