The National Population Commission (NPC) has provided an explanation for the many PENDING statuses of the NPC Adhoc Staff Application, as it prepares for the 2023 Census Exercise. The Commission stated that the recruitment of Enumerators and Supervisors has already been concluded in many states. However, it still needs to train and deploy the APPROVED Adhoc Staff at the LGA level.

In a Press Statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs, Isiaka Yahaya, the Commission disclosed that it had made preparations to train and deploy 786,741 Adhoc Staff across the 36 States plus FCT for the 2023 Census Exercise. These Adhoc Staff include 623,797 Enumerators, 125,944 Supervisors, 24,001 Data Quality Assistants, 12,000 Field Coordinators, 1,000 Data Quality Managers, 1,639 Training Center Administrators, and 59,000 LGA Facilitators.

Despite receiving over two million applications, not everyone who applied will be selected. Yahaya explained that the recruitment of Enumerators and Supervisors was based on quotas available in each State, LGA, and Ward. Hence, the Approval of an application is subject to vacancies in an applicant’s State/LGA/Ward of Assignment.

Therefore, a PENDING status does not necessarily mean a problem but rather indicates that an application has not been approved. An applicant whose status is PENDING can still be selected if the State they applied to work in has not yet concluded Recruitment.
